time to play ball with obama

grand old game and grand old party . . . must now give way to obama ball commentary from journalist jimmy smith everybody knew where george bush stood on baseball. loves the game. but george bush's time has passed. it is now obama time. bloggers might ask: where does obama stand on baseball? a casual fan? a devoted fan? or no fan at all? did a young obama play baseball? does president-elect obama own a baseball glove or bat? much is made of obama shooting baskets on the basketball court. does obama spend any time in the batting cages? can obama catch and throw? have the obama girls been taught to catch and throw? can anybody hit? al gore could not throw a baseball to the plate even when standing in front of the mound. unfit for the presidency. george w bush still throws a strike to the plate. two terms. obama organized communities. george bush organized the texas rangers. was baseball played in those communities? was that baseball being played by the texas rangers? obama has been seen wearing a chicago white sox cap. will obama govern believing in the designated hitter? obama would raise the taxes of all major league baseball players. does that sound like something a baseball fan would do? would somebody do that to uh, chipper? journalist jimmy smith has gathered some photos that reveal barack obama to be a player and a fan. of course, there are bowling pictures, too, but please disregard those in favor of the baseball pictures.

JimmySmith, very interesting. I forget Obama is a lefty. A lefty in more ways than one of course.
Very interesting to be the first post as well.

oh, the humanity! journalist asks journalist bob for forgiveness! and gil, too (if gil is back from oyster fest).

jimmy smith was trying to create a draft to save for later and jimmy smith was adding photos and moving things around . . . then jimmy smith checked and the photos were on bob's post . . . again! same mistake as before.

jimmy smith panicked and tried to get bob's post back like it was when all of a sudden . . . boom! a post from berigan on the new jimmy smith blog that was supposed to be only a draft.

things were getting away from jimmy smith pretty fast. journalist did not know what to do. journalist still does not know what to do.

can sja help jimmy smith?

journalist jimmy smith said...

berigan, best line of the day . . . "a lefty in more ways than one".

all americans better hope obama is a lefty like koufax, carlton, spahn, randy johnson, or whitey ford. can say whitey ford?

jimmy smith remains worried about gil at oyster fest. jumbo smith (r.i.p.) was done in at oyster fest.

can restore bob's blog? like it was? hope bob isn't steamed. might be in the tub. stays in the tub a lot. could be steaming in the tub.

jimmy smith ... Bob's post seems to be intact, no damage that I can see ... not sure what help you may need from me, but you can place your photos within the body of your post instead of in the sidebar if you want ... and you can always go back to your edit page and change your post, add photos or even return your post to draft status until you are certain that it appears the way you want it, then simply publish it again ... sorry for not being involved with the shop as of late ... still DL'ish ... just let me know if you need more assistance ...

Jimmy Smith need not fear over my health. Festival was wonderful as usual, oyster fritters stayed down but not dirty. Wonderful place Urbana is. I did not stay for the parade, after all, I have seen just about all the fire trucks I ever really want to see.

I am willing to give Mr Obama a chance to do a great job but unlike the media, I will not give him a free pass.

And baseball and the new POTUS... Looks a little like Satchel to me.

Well, well ... it doesn't pay to turn your back on anyone these days ... or go visit your sister.

We never locked our back door ... we did latch the screendoors to try and keep the flies out.

Of course there was Old Blue ... and Blackie ... didn't need no gun ... we always knew when strangers were about ... the iceman and the mailman too.

A lefty ... how fitting ... looking at his form as displayed in the picture, I do hope is he a better president than bowler ... that not asking much ... and a better baseball fan ... I would be a better President than he is a bowler, methinks.

It should be interesting ... but Gil, those oysters must have been soaked in something bad ... he don't look nothing like a suitcase.

journalist jimmy smith said...

jimmy smith hopes sja is on the mend. and it is good that gil survived the oyster fest . . . but it seems to jimmy smith that oyster distress does not begin immediately . . .

r.i.p. jumbo smith.

and, jimmy smith is not too good with creating posts because jimmy smith seems to be working in real time even though jimmy smith is creating a draft. what is left messes up the previous post. journalist must work to do better next time.

and jimmy smith was successful getting one photo in the copy, but not more than one. still have some training to do.

and rosalynn and susan thrush need to bury the hatchet. looks like this blog has some controversy after all. is susan thrush stinky?

Gil in Mechanicsville said...

Maybe it's because of all that baggage he carries with him... Then again, looks like he was given a free pass so only a satchel or maybe a briefcase....

Now back to baseball, I have a new post up on the B&S blog if anyone would care to read it.

I finished part IV of the series last night so now I have time to work on something for the Old Barbershop bulletin board.

So many stories possible, sports, hunting, cars, girls, rescue squad, fire department, Yes, seems my life has been somewhat of a fairytale or is that a nightmare? Same thing... Only different...

Gil in Mechanicsville said...

And the oysters stayed downstream... Go thing that, I can relate to Jumbo Smith however... My brush with "walking towards the light" was with a batch of "tainted" clams. Gave a whole new meaning to the term "clamming up"!!!!

For a long time after I usually avoid creatures which primary function was to eat doo doo..

journalist jimmy smith said...

can say doo doo on a blog? betcha can't say it on b&S. can't say booger there, either. jimmy smith is not supposed to go back there so journalist will just have to let baby seal check out gil's post and report back to jimmy smith. seals have stealth. can go undercover which is very beneficial to a seal journalist.

and gil, what are gil's thoughts on the oyster cracker?

Gil in Mechanicsville said...

can say cracker on blog???? oh my, stooped to a new low. next thing you know we will be telling hill billy jokes....

journalist jimmy smith said...

outrageous! the ajc reports that the braves have hired a dum chiti. this is very bad journalism. very bad. where are the standards anymore? name calling is inappropriate even when there is no one reading.

more . . . if pitching and defense are the heart of a braves team . . . and if up the middle is the core of a successful defense . . . and if mccann struggles with defense and escobar and kj are traded and there is a new centerfielder . . .

will the braves be sound up the middle? will there be pitching and no defense in addition to no hitting?

something to think about instead of calling names.

imagine, dum chiti. beneath the dignity of the paper and this blog.

journalist jimmy smith said...

"what? what, baby seal?"

"not dum chiti, but dom chiti, recently fired by the texas rangers?"

"oh, the humanity! that is different."

sorta like sending 5 players to the rangers for rent-a-tex, only different.

journalist apologizes for the confusion.

and what will bobby cox call dom chiti?

oh, the humanity! this is getting ugly. journalist had better quit blogging for a little while until the confusion settles down some.

Testing, testing... anyone out there?

Where do I send my lead?

the Proprietor said...

Gil ... I think it's still bob@theoldbarbershop.com ...

the Proprietor said...

Gil ... if I knew your email address I would send you an author invite, then you could construct and publish posts when convenient ...

Gil In Mechanicsville said...

SJA... I will forwarded it to Bob, thank you for the invitation but likely I would just crash the site. However, my email is elliotgm@aol.com

more on obama the baseball fan:

notice that in the photos of barack obama wearing a baseball cap the bill of the cap is properly bent downward. this adds credibility to obama's being a baseball fan rather than a pretender. a pretender would have on a fresh cap with a flat bill. much like al gore, only different.

Rosalynn said...

Why does Jimma Smith keep mentionin' Al Goah? Al Goah is crazah!

Well, Obama's Mom was a whitey, so why not?? ;)

Berigan said...

Matt Holliday is now an A. One Less Left fielder for us to trade/sign.

Gil In Mechanicsville said...

Wow, you folks are a quiet bunch... Not so much traffic on a post about Obama...

BOB said...

Gil has submitted a love story for posting on the blog and a campaign contribution of $200 ... jimmy smith should send him a can of instant hair ... the $200 has been put to good use and just about covered my expenses incurred during the campaign ... key words "just about" ... additional contributions will be gratefully accepted!

Gil's story starts out "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways" ...

Oops, Carol says we received that one from someone named Joe ... good story though!

Barigan posted "all americans better hope obama is a lefty like koufax, carlton, spahn, randy johnson, or whitey ford. can say whitey ford?

Well, Obama's Mom was a whitey, so why not?? ;)
" ...

Yes Berigan, "can say whitey ford?" is okay as "political correctness humor" but methinks "Obama's Mom was a whitey, so why not??" crosses the line and is not.

BOB said...

Gil, we should learn from history ... methinks Der Führer's Mein Kampf is an example that refutes Daddy's asseveration that "You can't tell much of anything about a man from his memorized spiel and how well it's delivered" ...

There are others ...

Serious question with no racial undertones ...

As the National League batting champion, Chipper will receive the Walter "Buck" Leonard Award.

According to Mark Bowman, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum annually presents the Legacy Awards to the top performers from the National and American Leagues.

According to what I read in Wikipedia, the museum is "one-of-a kind" in its attempts to preserve the Negro League Baseball culture ... one that, as its players slowly age and pass away, is beginning to fade from the realm of consciousness for the public.

Thus the question ... why are the "Legacy Awards" awarded to Non-Negro players?

Rosy, when all the goobers were gone you and Jimmy had left the White House. Have a pleasant evening. Susan

Today we watched movies from the WWII period ... for purposes of proper perception, methinks it important to view old movies as if we were in the time when they were first presented.

Proper perception is always difficult but truly an impossible task in many cases ... certainly those ... you see, we know the outcome of that war, and each of its battles ... our friends and love ones aren't facing death each moment of the day as we view the news reels of the day ... it do make a difference.

It was real ... we lost about 400,000 folks as a result of the war ... but millions upon millions lost their lives ... about 50 million all toll ... goodness!

Gil In Mechanicsville said...

Yes Bob, I wonder if people would have a much different perspective if the actual horror of war could be experienced by the general public. It should be noted that men who have actually experienced war are the ones least likely to start one.

The noise, the chaos, the stench, the visual horrors, the atrocities, and the loss of basic human decency that takes place. Yes, war is a horrible thing that far too many times we have forced upon us.

A good friend who was a historian once told me all wars were over economics not ideology. I am inclined to agree, most use ideology to inspire the masses to do their bidding but it is for their personal enrichment they cause others to fight.

I applaud the service of so many of our fine young men and women who have given so much, I cannot thank them enough for what they have done and what they will do. I pray everyday for the safe return of our troops and wish they could pound their weapons into plowshares but know it will not happen.

So as Lincoln said, I pray we are on God's side in our conflicts.

BOB said...

So as Lincoln said, "I pray we are on God's side in our conflicts" ... an interesting prayer from a different time ... not so long ago in the overall scheme of things.

The current version is only slightly different "I pray God is on our side in our conflicts" ... what a big difference such a little difference makes!
