"TheOldBarbershop" - created along the lines of the old barbershops, same but different, where folks would gather to visit with friends - share life experiences - tall tales - or maybe discuss politics, religion, sports, news, weather, current affairs or just about anything interesting or imaginable
We thought it might be good to tell folks a bit about the old barbershop, its history and its barbers ... somehow I got elected ... that's another way of saying that the Southern Jackass is a whole bunch bigger than me!Miss Carol says I'm an old rambling wreck from Georgia Tech ... and all four are true, but I ain't no engineer! It ain't by intent that I ramble but as you'll see, it takes me four pages to write what others do in less than one ... advance sincere apologies!
If you've read our story then

That's right, Plato's Place was a barbering school ... that's why some folks called it
Yes, I misuse and abuse this language I love ...
... after the '
Nobody knows what Jimmy really looks like, at least until now ... he can say more with a couple of words and a picture than most of us can in two or three pages ... you'll find proof positive on the walls of the Shop and his frequent comments!
There you'll also find his ward and our favorite columnist,
In the Shop, I talk a lot about mirrors and self-portraits ... the perception that others have is one thing, how we see ourselves is another. The notion of mirrors and self-portraits ... seemed rather easy to grasp ... but, when you try to grab hold of it, things just ain't as simple as they might seem, ... danged if some self-portraits aren't almost photographic in their reproduction while some mirrors give distorted renderings of reality. It's not enough to just use any old mirrors for reflection ... they must be of the right stuff and kind.
I talk a lot about things of which I know nothing too, but if I didn't, I wouldn't have anything to say ... it's another thing that differentiates SJA and JJS from most methinks ...
SJA's ability to reflect and look deep down inside ... and to be honest with himself ... is rare ... at least my experience has been that most either cannot or are unwilling to so do ... it is not just coincidence or happenstance that
Mother knew Polonius ... and agreed with him too ... though she would loan anyone in need anything she had, without expectation of it being returned, including money. Like Houseman's wisdom ... Mama's words weren't truly appreciated until long after they were received .. though they were the topic of frequent discussion ...
Being true to yourself ... knowing yourself .. the individual behind the many masks ... it's a rare gift, perhaps the rarest of all .. the trick methinks, is knowing how to use it ...
Knowing who and what we are ... recognizing our limitations ... shortcomings ... and weaknesses ... that's power that the majority of humanity does not possess. Unfortunately, those few so gifted frequently turn it into a liability rather than an asset. They allow the realization of their limitations ... shortcomings ... weaknesses ... and past failures or rejections to give them fear of failure rather than confidence in success as it should ... and when adversity is encountered, they see history repeating itself ... oftentimes giving up in frustration rather than defining and addressing the problems ...
Those who confuse self-portraits with mirrors admire themselves and blindly go forth with total confidence, for they believe they possess all the answers, usually surrounding themselves with non-threatening, kindred spirits ... they are the truly enlightened! ...
Say it ain't so Joe! ...
and if you can't think geometrically, that's okay ... the three of us can't cut hair neither, were it not for them bowls, but as you can see ... it was that or jail for Jimmy, SJA and me!
We've been truly blessed to add first
inspired ... and it's one thing that won't ... "

chair 3? hydraulic? nice cushion? no squeaks, right? and next to journalist bob? can reach the candy?
and now, bobby cox is rubbing up the ball while awaiting a new relief pitcher. ball should dip and swerve now. of course, could be hard to release the ball resulting in overthrow.
and what is the general toe health of this club? oh, the humanity! almost a game tying homerun. bobby cox is using the bullpen to perfection! master strategist. can snatch defeat from almost certain victory.
Stay out of my candy, kid!
Hello everyone! Nice digs you got here!
Man, I had trouble figuring out how to post...I don't know if I needed to sign in at the top or not, but now I have a blog, for some reason as well!
the older I get, the harder new things are to me. You kids wouldn't understand.
I also haven't been to a barber shop in a long time. They don't like us long hair hippie types! ;)
Weird where the comment box is as well....Well, weird to me at least!
I noticed everyone else here, from time to time does.....<---
Wonder why????
Welcome, welcome Lincoln Man ... we'll have to add Jazz Music, just for you ... let us know your favorites!
oh, the humanity! it is berigan! this journalist is glad to see berigan posting hear. and now, baseball . . . the announcers seemed to think bobby outsmarted everyone last night using different relievers for the righty-lefty matchups. an opposing manager could burn bobby's pen very easily for the balance of the series just by inserting pinch hitters. if a reliever has good stuff and is getting outs, why take him out for an unknown? never know what you're getting until the pitch is thrown. may be better - could be worse. remember how many sore arms are in the bullpen now. give bobby another month and can add to that.
Berigan, it is a bit different and may take getting used to ... but, it's our differences that make each one of us so special, methinks!
It won't let you make as many mistakes, that's for sure.
Like I told Jimmy a bit earlier, I've been practicing up on the Frullet, just for you, so don't be a stranger ... visit often, mon ami ... bring a friend share some stories, pictures, and/or video ... first haircut is on the house and please do have a stick of candy.
Well, I sent an email to My Lady ... though, based on her comments on "Braves 'n Stuff" ... it appears not to have been well received.
I just posted there as well ... and hopefully, it won't be removed before folks have a chance to read my Paul Harvey.
In case it is, here's what I said ...
Good morning all!
Last evenings email to CL covered many things … how much I treasure her friendship … how much Braves and Stuff means to me … and that, for multiple reasons, I thought it best that my participation remain at its current limited level and that I be removed from the Lineup, at least temporarily.
As I explained to her, the reasons may not be fully understood, but they relate to Carol’s situation, energy levels, passion, and the genuine desire to be a positive rather than a negative influence on the Blog.
I also asked that she consider adding Don Sutton’s site to the “Braves’ and Stuff” Blogroll … something in which Carol and I believe is worthy of widespread support.
Indeed, it was intended to be a private email … and a well intending one … I invited CL to visit the blog created by John (sja) … and which will be operated by sja, jimmy smith and myself.
As I indicated to her, it was really a result of her inspiration that John and I have long been thinking of ways to create such a blog … hopefully, one which everyone can enjoy … and which is not in competition with this or any other Blog.
We really don’t think of it as being our blog …it’s yours to visit and enjoy … and we hope that you will. As I also explained, neither sja, jimmy smith, nor I desire, nor do we intend that this or any Blog with which we which we might become associated should ever detract in any way from “Braves and Stuff” or any of it’s endeavors.
In no way did I say … or mean to suggest that I was changing teams … indeed, as I told CL, I hope that I will continue to be a welcomed member of this blog. While I am excited about the new blog, I will continue to support this one; certainly in spirit. That I treasure most of you as friends is no secret, … as is my friendship and admiration of both John and Jimmy … so saying is far more than simple or idle rhetoric. Unfortunately my level of participation in both Blogs will be impacted by personal circumstances, at least temporarily.
What I said to CL regarding the new blog, at least in essence, was … As I will be telling others … I hope you’ll visit … join in the fun … Baseball is definitely on the agenda … especially the Braves … but we ain’t in competition with “Braves and Stuff”, the AJC sponsored blogs, or any of the other sports blogs … stopping by and having fun at our place does not mean that folks can’t also have fun someplace else … that is my plan and I hope that you will join me … indeed, we’d love to have you visit and join in the fun!
That’s what I told CL … now for those who might be wondering what has happened to SJA, Jimmy Smith, and Baby Seal … I know where they’re at … it’s a fun place, though nothin’ fancy … or I do so hope will soon be … when things get settled down and folks find out were we are.
There’s country music, barbership quartets … baseball … contests … like the Proprietor said … “characters with character preferred, ladies too … shoot the breeze with a friend … be ready to share an interesting story, a tall tale, or whatever is on your mind … no topic off-limits … if you can’t behave, use profanity, pick fights or spit on the floor you will politely shown the door” … couldn’t have said it better myself!
I hope that those of you who enjoy the humor, banter and creativity of Jimmy Smith and his wonderful entourage … and Most Honorable’s delightful stories and good humor … will visit and join in the fun. Like I said, stopping by and having fun doesn’t mean that folks can’t also have fun here, the Braves Beat blog, or somewhere else … goodness, it’s not a competition! I sincerely hope you will … and I know that goes double for Jimmy and John … you’ll certainly see a slightly different side of the Proprietor, aka SJA … but one with which I’m most familiar … and Bob, journalist will be understandable, at least most of the time.
As CL indicated, it’s my plan to send a special invitation to those for whom I have addresses and think might have an interest … but it’s not my intent to exclude anyone who enjoys jjs and sja … should I overlook anyone … or not have your address … you can drop me a line and I’ll point you in the right direction … really, you don’t have to wait for an invite … just contact me at BobMcBrayer[at sign]comcast.net and I’ll open the door!!
God Bless
Remember, today is Old folks' Day at Kroger ... Publix too, but that's every Wednesday ...
Sad news Jimmy ... cartoonist Ted Key, whose comic strip "Hazel" about a bossy maid went from magazine page to TV screen, has died at age 95.
For folks who don't remember, "Hazel" was a popular feature in The Saturday Evening Post, starting in 1943, evolving into a prime-time series in 1961 that starred the wonderful Shirley Booth.
The prolific Mr. Key also created Mr. Peabody and Sherman that some will remember from "Rocky and His Friends."
A truly remarkable man, methinks.
Hazel came to him in a dream ...
journalist does not wish to be controversial. jimmy smith left blogging for a time because jimmy smith was losing jimmy smith's patience in another blogging environment. already lived through one stinky - not interested in another. when journalist was encouraged to return to blogging by some bloggers there, jimmy smith found the welcome mat had been pulled from the front door by the blog's creator. not to worry. jimmy smith regrets any bad feelings toward this journalist but jimmy smith can find other amusements. now, sja and bob have invited jimmy smith to blog hear and hear it shall be. journalist has no bad feelings for anyone and has no interest in competition for bloggers. jimmy smith wishes merely to blog with friends and not be mistreated. so, sja and bob, jimmy smith gladly accepts chair number three. let's blog away and have some fun.
now, baseball . . . chipper is getting a lot of face time on television while chipper is on this incredible hitting streak. journalist has noted something new . . . mouth breather. that's right, mouth breather. making no use of the nostrils whatsoever. probably plugged with something. still, a remarkable hitter and should teach mouth breathing and hitting to others. :-)
Blog domination ... I'm not used to that ... Mr. Gil called ... scheduled an appointment ... Chair #3 ... I warned him but he said he wanted a good view of the game being played across the street ... don't think he likes molasses candy anyway.
It's good to know that my stuff, can stay stuff, right? ... is copyrighted ... wouldn't want the ACJ borrowing it ... Carol agrees ... she knows it's hard work and takes me a long time to borrow things from somebody else ... and Polonius is flat out against borrowing from your friends or lending things to the AJC.
Kroger time ...
poultice. can apply poultice in the shop. haircut and poultice $18. does not smell like hair tonic but doesn't smell all that bad for a poultice. and soothing. if applied with discretion. too much will remove layers of skin. can damage nerves and cause bone deterioration, too, but not likely. apply with a moistened rag. throw the rag away. stay off the furniture. best to board small animals overnight. will feel good in the morning.
and now, baseball . . . andruw is starting again!
Greetings all, I'll have a regular man's hair cut. No need for a stylist.
Has anyone else noticed that when the hair cut is finished, it looks as if there is a dead possum on the floor?
I stopped by earlier but the out to lunch sign was posted on the door and I needed to make the trip to my Mom's. It appears I will have to place her in a nursing home soon. She is become ever more combative with the nurses I am hiring and she is loosing touch with reality. Maybe in todays times, that is not such a bad thing but it can be stressful.
Glad to see Berigan dropped by too.
Now baseball..... Go uh..uh.. well. go team...
That's not an opossum, Gil ... that was Berigen ... the haircut looks ... well, try Chair #2 next time!
Go Braves!
Looking forward to hearing your take on things and the state of the world ... as well as the team what's deserted you, come next year.
greetings, gil! journalist has missed blogging with gil. jimmy smith wants to hear about richmond. who is hot? who is not?
jimmy smith knows all too well the difficulty of caring for aging parents. gil will make the right choice. must take action though. when the time seems right it probably is right.
and now, baseball . . . sure would be nice if the braves could produce a run in close games like most national league teams are able to do. remember when the pirates held school on small ball a few weeks ago? that was before the team's weaknesses surfaced all at once in the late innings.
and bobby cox has been thrown out of this game. who will rub up the ball for the relief pitcher tonight? or will huddy go 9?
Believe or not, Scott Thorman has actually begun to thaw out his lumber and glove, well... His bat anyway, may have to get a bigger glove.... His average is up about 100 points in the past few weeks.
Infente' is swinging a hot bat, just in time to replace an ailing Bryan Pena who has a mid back sprain. (Who knew?) I wonder if they have told Bryan yet? Could that have been the reason for the team meeting with the team doctor today?
"Ahem... We need to clear some roster space for a player coming back so who has an injury they are not telling us about?"
I hope Pena does not get stuck in Richmond again doing a long rehab like he did last year.
The air conditioning is out again and Carol's a bit under the weather too ... asked me to go on the DL ... or at least come to bed before midnight.
Gotay, Norton, Infante ... hmmm ...
If I heard right, Omar is ready to return ... and it's about time too ... Gil, how does he look in the field? The news also sounds a bit more encouraging for Soriano ... we all have our demons, just wish I had his money!
You have me at an advantage ... "could that have been the reason for the team meeting with the team doctor today? ... what team meeting and when?
Scary to think something was threatening the whole team ... but, whatever it is, keep the Doc out of it ... 5 in a row is 5 in a row ... don't fix it if it ain't broke.
"Ahem... We need to clear some roster space for a player coming back so who has an injury they are not telling us about? is a hoot, but sounds about right.
Still, Chipper didn't look too chipper after the game ... neither did Tim and Matt didn't look like Matt during the game ... body language was somehow different.
Methinks Tim balked, body moved slightly forward, just before he made his move, my singular opine.
Gil, the a steamed SJA done put the hurt on me and jimmy ... wants us to do a new pole ... I'll trade you a free haircut and some candy for a good story and pole suggestion!
No, I wouldn't really try to steal one of jimmy's customers ... but, I'll pay for it (get a discount) and throw in the candy ... some of SJA's private stock, not mine.
Lest I forget, ... how's your back? Be sure to remind your clan that were it not for you, they wouldn't be celebtrating Mother's Day.
Wither our shoe shine boy?
Say goodnight, Miss Allen!
Why do I get the feeling you are telling the wrong people to keep an eye on the candy jar? If I were you I would be watching out for a certain furry creature who has been seen on occasion to sport cookie crumbs on his whiskers.
Of course it would be pretty easy to spot the culprit as a red tongue would surely give him away...
Now baseball... Omar looks to be an adequate fielder. Not super flashy but certainly more capable with the glove than Bryan Pena.
oh, the humanity! baby seal would never get in the candy jar. a beet writer, but with good manners. and braves' p.r. department would have us believe the team is stocked with young infielders but look where the team turns for infield depth . . .
this may be the formula . . . tout the young players as the next jeter and trade them away for immediate help.
and pena may be like wes helms and a few others who never seemed to mesh with bobby cox. seems to this journalist that pena could offer more than some others but will not have the opportunity. and will mccann get a day off? and work on the throw to second base? chino spent all that time working with javy instead of developing the young catchers. hmmm......
and whither the sound of thorman swinging the axe? that pinch hit single with the bases loaded by norton would have been different last year with thorman at bat. and atlanta loses norton the whale shark only to find norton the pinch hitter.
as some will know, baby seal has been out of work for a few weeks. baby seal is no longer a beet writer for another blog. baby seal would like to ply baby's seal's new journalistic craft here if permitted to do so. a good beet writer and with good manners. taller than some beet writers even when shuffling about on flippers. good speller, not so good typist. willing to ask the tough questions. good seal to share a beer and a bowl of whelk. good personal hygiene for a beet writer. anyway, would write beets here if okay with management. still doing some small engine repair to make ends meet but interested in becoming a columnist soon. would definitely come to work here if a columnist position is offered.
Egg on my face ... I got up, emailed the a steamed journalist about Baby Seal ... a day late and a dollar plus some candy short.
Resident 'Columnist' ... no, not Communist ... yes Columnist!
Welcome aboard, Master Columnist!!
Sad news ... Eddie Arnold died early this morning ... Tennessee Waltz ... Make the World Go Away.
Wonderful entertainer, very good man ... very wealthy too ... drove an old Buick, methinks. Here's a special report
http://tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=SPECIAL0411
Goodness, does Jo Jo look as bad as he sounds?
Yes, I know it's Eddy ... not Eddie and no, I don't know why the link doesn't work.
Had too much maple syrup for breakfast ... sticky keyboard and tummy hurts ... back in a few.
thiS iS graTe NewS! I wiLL gO tO worK on a Collum. HavE to finD a PhoTo. ChECk in laTer.
Well, the air conditioning is fixed, methinks ... at least we have air!
Speaking of Barbershops, Eddy Arnold's grandson, who played drums in a rock band many years back, recalled ... “He was concerned about my future. He listened to our music, looked at us and said, ‘Boys, y’all just need to cut your hair and play something somebody wants to hear.’
His advice for his grandson ... “Go to school, learn something practical and get a good job.” ... he did ... works in commercial real estate.
A man of enormous wealth, the Tennessee Plowboy was really proud of the fact that he always bought a used car.
Years ago he was out mowing his lawn , some woman, who was new in town, pulled up in his driveway. He went over to see her ... she asked how much he would charge to mow her lawn ... well, he told her, "The lady here lets me sleep with her"
A true gentleman, ... he was the kind of man Bob, journalist thinks we should strive to be ... without the boss' permission, I've added a video tribute to the bottom of the Blog ... new layout looks great boss!
Oops, not the best of Eddy Arnold ... but then, U-Tube has a mind of it's own ... don't we all ... hey the Artie Shaw ain't bad!
Great game today.... Unfortunately the club house is beginning to take on the appearance of a M.A.S.H. unit... Wounded pitchers all over the place.
Looks like this guy Norton is going to be a good pick up. Atlanta's luck was bound to change sometime. After all, we couldn't be saddled with another Craig Wilson could we???
*tapping on the barbershop door* Hello? Are you gentlemen still open? I had a bit of trouble finding my way in.
flbravesgirl! welcome! jimmy smith is new at barbering and just cut off someone's ear. applying a poultice now. journalist is glad to hear from flbravesgirl and hopes flbravesdad is doing well.
and now, baseball . . . most of these injuries can be overcome. at least there have been no career-ending toe injuries. toes are not to be trifled with.
and gil, has thorman changed thorman's swing? still chopping with an axe? thorman opened the door for norton and norton walked right in.
and now that flbravesgirl has arrived what about the cookie gun? any gun that shoots cookies is alright with this journalist.
now, hair in the barbershop . . . and sticky molasses candy everywhere. bloggers will know where this is going . . .
jimmy smith thinks candy is inappropriate in the barber shop. peanuts. that's right, peanuts. less likely to ingest hair when eating peanuts - not sticky. unless sharing the peanuts with bobby cox . . .
Good Morning, all! Whither sja?
Thanks FBG for stopping by last night ... dang! Sorry to have missed you!!
Don't mind jimmy ... he just wants to save it for himself ... that stick candy is as old fashioned as I am ... but not as old ... of course, you can always help yourself to one of sja's lollypops.
Some of sja's friends keep the place under surveillance so it's always safe ... and the door is usually unlocked ... and we keep the light on ... so, if we've stepped out ... just come on in and make yourself to home.
Living in Flordia, it might be helpful to know that by raising your legs slowly and lying on your back, you won't sink in quicksand ... or so they say ... Carol says a better way is to watch your step and avoid it at all times.
Again, thanks for the visit ... the first of many, we hope!
We are headed out the door ... taking Carol out to lunch ... Mexican ... I'll try to remember and bring back some peanuts ... boiled ... sounds good!
Speak of the Devil ... I mean sja ... hello boss ... back after lunch!
Hello all-the prodigal has found home! I just have one question. Do you guys keep black licorice around here, or do I have to go down the street to the drugstore?
This looks like a nice place to hang out. I'm glad the proprietor clued me in!
What's going on fellas? So this is where you cowboys have settled down to?
I can't trust you guys to cut my hair unfortunately. We're all friends now but we've had our wars with each other in the past. I fear that if I sit in that barber chair I might end up with my throat slit in the barbershop like the guy in the great Russian mob flick that came out last year called Eastern Promises.
So, I'll sit over here in the corner with my back to the wall reading mags and enjoying the conversation, wary that if I step out of line, I could get squashed like a bug yet again by a certain somebody's Hummer or by his big old shoes. :)
I usually get my hair cut by Oriental women. For $11 and a $4 tip, they usually give me a cut, a shoulder and neck massage and a shampooing. It's much more than I prefer but if a woman is willing to do that for you for $15, why would I complain? I think if I paid $10 more I could get more than that but I don't want to run the risk of a possible solicitation charge. There's a really good looking one in particular I wish you'd hire. I might even make her my war bride.
but anyways nice to see you guys have a place I can visit and have fun with you guys again.
Been taking an nap ... hate to drop by and then run ... but since nobody wants me to cut their hair, I'm going out and try to round up some more customers.
Berigen called ... said he stopped by earlier but the door was locked ... and security guard didn't recognize him ... you boys lock the door and sneak off to he back room while I was asleep?
jimmy smith could see tom glavine tiring and the pitches getting up but apparently bobby and roger could not see it happening. so, now tom glavine is gone and so is the lead. tying run is now in scoring position - what will happen?
and lots of good bloggers are appearing here now. soon, this blog will be a coloss, er, a huge success.
and someone is needed to give stitches to the customers here. only a few accidents but meaningful ones.
Dang! Double Dang! I missed Will Wall ... reckon he'll be back ... or is he asleep over there in corner ... expecting a fellow wearing some Big Yellow shoes to drop in soon.
Duty calls ... she's getting hungry ... and I need to go out and drum up some business.
Jere Pugh tells me that a raisin dropped in a glass of fresh champagne will bounce up and down continuously from the bottom of the glass to the top ... I don't know about that so I'm to ask an authority on raisins ... someone who will give me a reasonable answer.
Keep the lights on ...
apparently, after shave applied to an open cut can sting pretty badly. jimmy smith has had some bad reactions today from some of the customers in chair 3. still, chair 3 has been busy all day. the secret? pie. that's right, pie from mrs. anthony's kitchen. free slice of pie with a haircut. cherry pie today with a scoop of ice cream.
and whither the base hit with men in scoring position? and will the pirates end it now? can say small ball? hit behind the runner and move the runner to scoring position. now, a base hit wins it.
perhaps bennett will have something to say about that . . .
nope. nothing to say. another 1-run loss. seems like somebody could teach this team some national league baseball.
maybe katy temple.
Who needs shoeshine? I'll be the shoeshine boy.
Everyone keeps jumping Frenchy and KJ. The real problem is Tex. If Tex had been hitting like he is supposed to, there is no way this team is 1-10 in one run games. I really don't like this Tex fella. He just might be the dullest star I've ever seen. Conceited, boring and underperforming. Blah.
Attempt # 3: Good evening gentlemen! Sorry about the delay in returning but I was away from the computer all day.
jimmy, Dad is very well, thanks. Hello, Matthew! Nice to see you.
Sir Sja, I certainly don't need a shave & rarely cut my hair but I will gladly take the free manicure. Where would you like me to set the cake plate?
FBG ... did you ever figure out the problem getting into the shop?
We need to pass the word on to Berigen ... I told him to park that Lincoln out in front ... don't want him getting lost or picking any more drunks!
I had to go back & sign in with Google again but now it seems to work.
Did I hear cake? Red Velvet? I need a good old fashioned pound cake recipe, sweetheart! Polished or Buffed? I don't know what kind we have ... he keeps those supplies in the back room and I've lost my key.
Let me go call Berigan!
I guess we'll have to add Red Foley's Chattanooga Shoe Shine Boy to welcome WW!
I have a wonderful Cream Cheese Pound Cake recipe. Delicious & pretty easy to make too. It's what I brought to Grinch in Orlando.
I'll send the recipe along tomorrow, Sir Bob. May not be 'til evening though. I have a busy weekend preparing to leave for 3 weeks in Rabun starting Mon.
Thanks, I'll pass it on to Lincoln Man ... Willy Wall, shoe shine boy ... is now on the shop wall ... let's see how it sounds!
Look forward to the recipe ... easy works!
Put the "Out to Lunch" Sign on Chair #2 ... Time to call Berigan, tuck Carol in ... and a hot tub ... God Bless!
What do I do when Hillbilly shows up barefooted? Do I shine his toes?
Hillbilly may be packin' ... so be careful Willy, we can't afford to have our new shoeshiner goin' on the DL.
The boys still don't understand "besting the pitcher" ... most still try to pull the ball or hit long flies, when rbis are in their eyes.
Mama didn't get to see the final cut of "Beat The Drum" ... so my baby brother dedicated it to her ... For Beatrice ... I just put the trailer at the very back end of the Shop ... same place as the dedication is in the credits ... Happy Mother's Day Mama!
I've invited him to visit ... If I can brag on family a bit, he's as gifted as he is Godly ... a good son, father, grandfather, husband ... and the best of brothers!
He used to tell folks that I taught him everything he knew ... was true too ... but, that was before he started to school.
He has a busy schedule but I'm sure he'll stop by when he can ... a great story teller too ... maybe he's share some with us ... treat him nice!
Five Braves pitchers (see, they are trained to use five pitchers per game, club policy) combined to blank Louisville as the Braves took the opener of an eight game road trip.
The Braves snapped a scoreless tie in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Diory Hernandez that plated Brandon Jones. Phil Stockman battled out of a bases loaded Louisville threat in the eighth. Barbaro Canizares added insurance with a ninth inning home run, his club leading fourth of the season.
Francisley Bueno pitched six innings, striking out five without allowing a walk to earn the win. Zach Schreiber worked a perfect ninth to notch a save. Justin Lehr took the loss. Canizares had two hits for the Braves.
Sorry to have missed you Gil ... missed the game too ... but, it doesn't sound like I missed much ... my guess they were trying to hard.
Thanks for the report from Richmond ... is Charlie Morton still with them ... what's his status? If he is, how's he doing?
oh, the humanity! baby seal's back is getting better but the poultice is on all the furniture! and who among the bloggers is fascinated as is this journalist by the post-game interviews with bobby cox? and what will bobby cox pull out before the camera? seems to have an itch or itches and some nasal difficulties along with recurring sniffles and some ear issues. rubs the eyes, too. snorts. can mrs. cox not teach bobby cox some manners? baseball player. sure, but still human, right? and where have those fingers been before rubbing the eyes? soon bobby cox will be the first manager to go on the d.l. with pink eye. yes, pink eye. maybe even clogged nostrils. yes, nostrils . . . can talk nostrils on this blog. and boogers, can talk boogers but won't very much. and if bobby cox is interviewed by katy temple will the old skipper display better manners? this is a long paragraph, right? and francoeur, the smartest brave? edging out chipper? great plate discipline and game awareness last night. the baseball this team is playing is not especially entertaining and that is a shame. escobar must continue to play escobar's game and not get caught up in corporate baseball. and the opposing teams seem to be getting a lot of confidence against the braves. not good to let that happen but not much to fear the way this team fails to execute. and is it coincidental that the key cogs are coming from outside the organization? jair comes to mind. omar. conzuela. humberto. sally. and if a player does not play team baseball is that ever discussed in a non-favorable way by this coaching staff? longer paragraph than usual. better go now. somebody wake up journalist bob. and hk, chime in sometime. need some new graphs here and some hk commentary.
